We have been puzzled for some time on how some truck mirrors are sold a good bit cheaper than the OEM top quality mirrors that we stock. We know how much they are to buy in so when the retail price is lower than an under 5 units buy in price it set alarm bells ringing. So we did some investigating…

It turns out there are some Chinese manufactured rip off copies and we have seen them for sale here in the UK for almost the same price as the quality German OEM mirrors that we stock. So if you do see a listing for a pair of VW T3 T25 Vanagon Truck Mirrors with a temping looking price as pictured below, tread with extreme caution,

Now we know there is a market for crap cheap stuff, that’s why there is a Poundland in every run down city centre. Selling crap stuff isn’t something that interests us usually but what we can’t stand is seeing our customers getting ripped off and reading the lies being posted about products like these (even Dick Turpin wore a mask!). So what we have done is order a few sets to see just how bad (or good) they are for reselling. The truth is that the quality is not very good so we are selling these as clearance items with no returns or warranty as they are not of decent enough quality for us personally from the start. We stock these just so you can buy the crap ones from us if you have to buy stuff like this and you get to do so without getting your pants pulled down and paying £295.00 for them. We have them here for UK next day delivery so you don’t have to wait 2 months for them to arrive from China and run the risk of them arriving damaged.

How to spot a true German made Mirror over the China ones..

It is actually quite easy to spot the difference from product images if you know what you are looking at. It is even easier to spot when you have the two in your hands. The copies use shiny nuts and bolts where the German ones dont use the same type. The springs are also different as are where the arm fits to the top brackets. Plus some inside info always goes a long way… Below are pictures with the German made on the left and the China copy being on the right side,

Look for silver parts being shown in listings for the China product would be a good basic rule of thumb.

Why are these China Mirrors not as good?

The folding mechanism leaves a lot to be desired. They arrive loose and it looks like you have to tighten them with a socket to get them to stay in place in the wind. This then stops them from folding back as good as the OEM ones we stock. The gaskets are a soft rubber rather than the hard plastic that the OEM mirrors have. The top gasket acts as a spacer as well as a gasket so it needs to be hard rather than soft. The mirror heads are also cheap feeling, unlike the original Hella mirrors that have some weight behind them and can take a whack. The paint finish in general is poor. There are marks and scratches on them when they arrive with us so this is what you will get should you choose these over the OEM ones we stock. Our guess is that rust may get to them soon enough.
