Part 5 – Nazaré to Vila Do Bispo
We kicked off this leg of the journey in Nazaré, the world-famous big wave surf town. After soaking in the atmosphere (and a few beers), we craved somewhere more remote, leading us to an incredible beachside wild camp spot for a few days of relaxation.
From there, we hit the backroads and gravel tracks of Portugal, uncovering hidden coastal gems along the way. And for a change of pace, Jed even tested out an official campsite—a rare stop for us, but with cheap prices and great facilities, it’s something to consider if you’re exploring Portugal by van.
Part 6 – The South of Portugal
With northern Portugal in the rearview, it was time to take on the southern coast. But there was a catch—wild camping is illegal in the south, meaning we had to rethink our approach.
A quick stop in Lagos was followed by a much-needed stay at Mickie’s Place, a well-known camper spot. But we didn’t stop there! We took a detour inland, venturing down Portugal’s remote gravel tracks to discover the kind of hidden wild camping spots we love. One lakeside gem was particularly stunning before we pointed the van east towards Spain.
Part 7 – Leaving Our Van in Spanish Storage 🔐
After an unforgettable time in Portugal, we made our way back to Spain, where we had an important mission—finding a secure place to store the van before heading home for Christmas.
We found a great option at just €200 for three months, making it an exciting prospect for anyone looking to leave their van in Spain and fly back whenever adventure calls. Jed later returned with Lou for a sunny long weekend, proving just how convenient this option can be!
