When it comes to power management, you will find there are lots of choice and equally, lots of opinions too. Thankfully, we have had the time to get to know many of these options over the years and really drill into what is and isn’t needed.
This offering from National Luna is unlike many of the other options out there. It has two functions…
First of all, it acts as a DC-DC charger. In simple terms, it will connect your start battery to your leisure battery bank and charge your leisure battery, as you drive. This isn’t like the relays you can get, there is a bit more to this. It can charge at a rate of 25amps per hour. It does this in a smart way, working out what charge the batteries need and prioritising appropriately, using 6 different stages of charging. It is also designed for smart alternators, meaning this will provide the performance, when your “Smart” alternator goes into energy conservation mode, unlike the other options.
Secondly, this is a MPPT solar regulator too. Again, in simple terms, this enables you to connect solar power into this one device. It is most efficient up to 375W of solar power, with voltages up to 42V. This is pretty big and more than most people can fit on their roof.
So the simple way to understand this product is to appreciate it that it does two things, charges while you drive and charges when you park. This is one box, with less cable management and everything controlled via one panel.

The NLDC-25 features a 6-stage charge algorithm; suitable for any Lead-Acid battery type as well as automotive Lithium-Ion batteries. There are three safety stages that analyse the battery, therefore it can detect the batteries to see if they are damaged or whether they are unable to accept the charge. In addition to this, there is also a temperature compensation that is used to optimise the output voltage which helps to ensure a safe and full battery charging under a variety of conditions. Also, the NLDC-25 supports the connection of a remote monitor that displays information about the system and battery levels to the user on a high-contrast LCD screen. The NLDC-25 has an IP67 rating for harsh environments and is protected against reverse-polarity, over-voltage, over-temperature and over-current conditions.
