Diesel alternator returned by customer who ordered a Diesel one rather than a petrol one and was good enough to put oily finger prints all over it! We cleaned those off and this has been sat on Jed’s desk for the last 18 months. Too good to be a paper weight so we are selling this off cheap as they are hard to get at the moment.

Important information about pulleys and fitment

When it comes to VW alternators, things are not always as straightforward as they first appear. Similar alternator units have been used across several Volkswagen and Audi models, including the Golf, Passat and Audi 80. Although the alternator itself may be suitable, the pulley fitted to it can vary depending on the original vehicle application.

As a result, the pulley supplied with your replacement may differ from the one fitted to your existing unit.

Before installation, compare the replacement alternator with the original unit.

Depending on your setup, you may need to transfer the pulley from your old alternator to ensure the drive belt runs in the correct position. Carefully check belt alignment before putting the vehicle back into service.

Taking a few minutes to check everything before installation can help avoid unnecessary complications later — leaving you more time to enjoy the open road rather than spending your weekend back in the workshop.
