If you use a camper or 4×4 of any kind there will be at least one time when you will have been bogged down or stuck in a muddy field, on a sandy beach, down a trail or green lane, I know we have.

We used fibre glass waffle boards for years, they were good and strong but boy they were a pain to clean when the square parts got full of mud. Used in anything else they were perfect although a bit on the heavy side and bulky to transport around. They were also prone to splinter so caution had to be used after every time they were used as those splinters were sharp.

There are now a new wave of plastic recovery tracks available, you may have seen them. They are the ones that look like an upturned plastic kids sledge. The high end ones are super expensive were as the cheaper ones get pretty bad reviews when it comes to them holding mud and being a pain to clean. While researching the topic it seems in terms of performance the plastic sledge style ones can have some issues with melting or broken knobs/teeth on occasion. Although the manufactures advise is to keep momentum steady to reduce excessive wheel spin which generally is the cause of broken knobs. Anyone who has been stuck knows that by the nature of needing to use a recovery track there will be plenty of wheel spin involved. Again, with these they are a bulky item to have with you on your travels.
