Its February and its winter and its supposed to be freezing right?
Don’t know what’s going on but the weather forecast was good, Jed and his family had a weekend free so the plan was to pack the van up and go some place. Like all the the times you don’t actually have an agenda or a place to be at a certain time these weekends end up being the best ones.
There is no feeling like the one you get when your an hour away from home heading some place you that you are going to sleep that weekend but not knowing where that place is until you find it. Here is a video of such a weekend that only cost the fuel put in the tank and we hope you like watching it, please feel free to comment etc…

Hi Jed and family,
Looks like you had a great weekend. It’s nice to enjoy some peace & quiet sometimes and it doesn’t have to be far away from home either. Your videos make me wanna grab my van and camp in the open. I guess there’s only one word for it: freedom!
Your not wrong Rob, having the Westy give us lots of freedom and like you we love it.
Nice film Jed! And some really good wilding spots you stayed at too.
Thanks Stephen, the spots you dont know exist until you find them are always the best ones. I like your van by the way.
Well that little film has got me thinking about our own little excursion this week. Will be our first since I bought it in 0ct 2012. Like the fish eye effects on the camera. Keep it going. Very inspiring!
Good luck on the first trip Robert, where are you heading to? I bet you will have a great time.

HOLA JED, HERMOSO TU VIDEO, SE NOTA EL FRIO EN AQUELLAS LATITUDES, POR AQUI EL CALOR ES BASTANTE, ACABO DE REGRESAR DE UN VIAJE EN MI VAN (JAPONESA) CON MI FAMILIA, POR BRASIL, PARAGUAY, Y LA SELVA DEL NORTE ARGENTINO,, CASI 25 DIAS VIAJANDO
TE COMENTO QUE TUVE LA SUERTE DE CONOCER TU PAIS, EL QUE ME GUSTO MUCHO Y TENGO BUENOS RECUERDOS DE ALLI.
COMO CALEFACCIONAS TU VAN POR LA NOCHES??
SALUDOS DESDE ARGENTINA
Hola de nuevo a Claudio.
25 dÃas en la selva suena increÃble. ¿Tiene fotos de tus vacaciones?
Awesome video, overall good composition, interesting and the westy nicely integrates into the family unit. I wish mine wasn’t hiding under 12″ of snow………………keep up the great work. Cheers Gerald Canada
Thanks Gerald,
12″ of snow is deep…
winter westy’s anyone………….the snow is one thing but the -25 temps are quite another in an aircooled westy !
Holy crap!!! Thats deep.
Nice one Jed and co as always.
Dont think you live far from me, might get out and about myself like you sometime soon!
Go for it Rob…
nah not really, we don’t get a huge lot of snow here in Central Canada, I remember as a kid growing up in Newfoundland, we could get more than this in a single overnight snowfall! But this is enough for sure, we have been snow covered since early November. There is actual a split bus roofpanel and the 12 inches or so below it laying next to the garage that you can just see sticking out on the right side. Bloody cold today and yesterday after a week of quite mild -3 or so last week! really sucks when winter comes back!
cheers
Great stuff jed.
Now our van is fully wilded we too are enjoying the perks
here’s a pic of our wild weekend
Thanks Kev,
If you go along that road behind you about half a mile there is a forest track with an open gate that never locks, there is a really good wild camping opportunity up there. We do quite a bit of our green laneing camp outs in that area.
Entertaining vid, as always ;)
What’s the last song you used in the video? The one that starts at 13:13, it’s wonderful!
Keep up the campervaning Jed, wish you and your friends all the best.
Hi Wim,
Glad you liked it. The band you ask about are called Civil Civic and the song is called Lights On A Leash and the song can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPAm6J5viw8
Pretty cool hey!!! I should get together a CampervanCulture music CD of the music we use as people often ask about it.
That was good, Jed. I particularly liked the moody, misty, woody parts. This year I’ve overnighted in “wild” locations on Skye once and on Lewis four times, on Loch Awe and on Rannoch Moor, and in the New Forest!
And in me ‘ead I convert all those unpaid site fees into diesel.
You did well to get away with it in The New Forest Miles, those wardens are murder. Its a shame as there are so many cool places to park up too. We did find a place down near Lymington that was quite nice, actually thats a photo of it on the header of the Face Book page by the sea.
Where are you planning on heading to next on your adventures?
Hi Love your videos. Have watched some of the early ones too and you are getting better at it. One criticism though the volume differance tween speech and music is too great or could be my settings somwhere. I turn up the sound for your comments then…… WHAM the tune starts and I have to grab the knob to turn it down. I like your chose of tunes also. I have a 1990 Autosleeper Trident which I got new, Always try to wild camp and have spent all my winters in Spain ( so never been used on salted roads) since then so you know I am an OAP. My van has been laid up for 7 years cos wife got an illness and she could not camp but now is ok so dreading the MOT next week and looking forward us to carrying on camping. Regards John Brownboots.
I love the video, I think I may have driven over that bridge in Arundel a few times !
Quick question, have you ever been asked to move on whilst camped up for the night ? Legally can we camp anywhere thats NOT private property ? I live very close to the Ashdown Forest and have often wanted to camp hidden away just for a night.
Regards Martin.
Hi Martin,
Between the three of us we must have wild camped at easily over 2000 places world wide. I personally have only ever been advised to move on twice, one time in Belgium in a resort by the sea and another on MOD land in Salisbury. We were only advised to move on from the second one and the only reason we did is because we had a Canadian with us who was applying for a UK pass port otherwise we would have stayed with probably no dramas. Once you start wild camping you will never want to go to a camp site again, not because you are tight its because of the unique feeling of being away from other people and you will find your always on the look out for new places.
Just keep self contained, never put out anything outside your van unless your totally off the beaten track and dont spend all day at the place your going to sleep unless you feel its OK to do so. Take all your rubbish away with you and try and fill a bin bag with other peoples rubbish before you leave and that will serve you well.
